In this episode of The Hacka Podcast, I had the privilege of sitting down with Andrew Koch — a missionary preparing to serve in France — and what a great conversation it was.

Andrew has an amazing story. From growing up in West Virginia, to serving as a military linguist, to being baptized in Jesus’ Name on a beach in California, to now helping plant churches in Paris, it’s a reminder that when you make yourself available to God, He will direct your steps.

What struck me most wasn’t just his calling to France, it was how that calling began. It started with saying, “God, wherever You want to use us, we’re willing.”

Below is a summary of our conversation along key takeaways:

Episode Summary

Andrew and his wife didn’t set out to become missionaries to France. They were simply on a belated honeymoon trip across Europe after Andrew’s six years serving in the U.S. military as a linguist. But when they crossed the border into France, something shifted. They felt at home. Later, after seeing a post from a Paris church asking for help with an evangelism event, they made a radical decision — they cancelled the rest of their honeymoon and stayed to serve.

That month changed everything.

From there, we unpacked:

  • His journey from a Trinitarian Pentecostal background into the revelation of Jesus’ Name
  • Being baptized in Jesus’ Name after studying scripture for himself
  • Receiving the Holy Ghost after years of seeking
  • A powerful linguistic insight into Acts 2:21 — what it really means to “call on the Name of the Lord”
  • How language learning is a tool for missions and revival
  • What God is doing right now in Paris
  • The urgent need for laborers in Europe

10 Key Takeaways

1. Availability Precedes Calling

Andrew’s call didn’t start with a missions appointment — it started with a willingness to serve wherever he was.

“Whatever you set your hand to do, do it with all your might.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10)

2. God Often Confirms Calling Through Peace

When they crossed into France, they felt “at home.” That internal confirmation mattered.

“Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.” (Colossians 3:15)

3. Study Scripture for Yourself

Andrew didn’t accept baptism in Jesus’ Name just because someone told him. He searched the concordance. He read the Word.

“Search the scriptures.” (John 5:39)

4. Baptism Is More Than Symbolic

When Andrew studied Acts, he realised every baptism was done in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:38
Acts 8:16
Acts 10:48
Acts 19:5

5. “Call on the Name of the Lord” Has Deeper Meaning

In Acts 2:21, the Greek word implies having the Name called over you — not merely calling out verbally.

This connects directly to baptism in Jesus’ Name.

Acts 2:21
Acts 2:38

6. We Take On His Name

Andrew highlighted how the Greek carries the idea of being “surnamed” — like adoption.

“Ye have received the Spirit of adoption.” (Romans 8:15)

When we are baptized in Jesus’ Name, we take on His Name.

7. The New Birth Is Water and Spirit

Titus 3:5 reinforces John 3:5 – the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

John 3:5
Titus 3:5

This isn’t about works, it’s about obedience to the new birth.

8. The Harvest Is Still Great

Europe is not spiritually closed, but laborers are few.

“The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few.” (Luke 10:2)

9. Language Is a Tool for Revival

Andrew now speaks 12 languages. Why? Because language removes barriers.

Learning even one language can expand your ministry footprint in your own city.

10. Take the First Step

You don’t have to move overseas tomorrow. But you can start today.

Learn a language.
Start a Bible study.
Support a missionary.
Make yourself available.

God blesses obedience.

What God Is Doing in France

Andrew and his wife are partnering with the Paris Centre Church, which has outgrown its building and has launched daughter works in different districts of the city.

Their vision?
A church in every district of Paris.

Pray for:

  • Labourers for the harvest
  • Open doors
  • Spiritual hunger
  • Walls of tradition to fall
  • Financial provision for facilities

How to Partner in Missions

Andrew shared that they are currently raising monthly Partners in Missions support. Even small monthly commitments make a significant impact and directly fund the work on the field.

If you feel stirred to partner, you can do that here.

When you give to missions, you’re not just supporting a family, you’re connecting yourself to revival.

Final Thought

What impacted me most in this conversation was Andrew’s final challenge:

“Take the first step.”

So many people are waiting for an picture of the whole journey before they move. But often, God’s will is revealed gradually after obedience.

Make yourself available.
Study the Word.
Take a step of faith.

And watch what God does.
