What happens when something you love doing for God changes? A door closes, family responsibilities grow, or the ministry that once filled your schedule begins to look different. In this episode, I sat down with Jessica DiGiovanni to talk about surrender, worship, and trusting God through those transitions.

Jessica is a singer, songwriter, worship leader, and mother of four who spent 13 years teaching at Indiana Bible College. But her love for music began long before she stepped onto a platform. She shared stories of learning harmony while washing dishes with her mother and layering her voice on cassette tapes to create choirs as a child. Her parents and pastor recognised her interests and invested in them. I appreciated her reminder that parents don’t need a public ministry to help nurture a calling in their children.

As we talked about her journey to Bible college, Jessica was honest about the things she initially struggled to surrender. She knew she wanted to serve God, but there was a relationship she didn’t want to release. Going to IBC became a significant step of obedience, and her first year brought a deeper relationship with God. Her story gives a personal picture of learning to trust Him before we can see what comes next.

We also discussed the responsibility of leading worship and developing others. Jessica described a moment during her years of teaching when she felt God connect multiplying her talents with investing in people. She wanted her students to grow beyond her own abilities. When it comes to leading worship, she shared how remembering that everyone is there to worship Jesus helped her release the pressure of being on a platform.

One of the most encouraging parts of our conversation was hearing about her transition from teaching at IBC to being home with her children. Leaving something she loved was painful, but new opportunities emerged through vocal arranging and recording from home. Jessica’s closing encouragement carried that same honesty: even when we’re tired, hurting, or feel we have very little left, God still desires our praise. These are lessons that reach well beyond music ministry.

10 Key Takeaways

1. Pay attention to the gifts growing at home.
Jessica’s childhood love for singing and arranging grew through encouragement and investment from her parents.

2. Surrender includes what we want to hold back.
Following God meant releasing a relationship she wanted to keep.

3. Trust God with the next step.
We can obey Him without knowing every detail of the destination.

4. Don’t let comparison silence your contribution.
The pressure to be perfect can intimidate us into withholding what we have to offer.

5. Ministry takes many forms.
Cooking, caring for children, teaching, and serving others can all bless people and honour God.

6. Invest in people who will go further.
Jessica challenged leaders to help those they mentor grow beyond their own abilities.

7. Keep worship focused on Jesus.
Remembering who receives our worship helps release the pressure of being watched.

8. A changing season can bring new opportunities.
Stepping away from teaching opened space for Jessica to arrange and record vocals from home.

9. Invite your children into what you do.
Jessica involves her children by sharing arrangements, asking their opinions, and letting them participate.

10. Keep offering God your praise.
The praise you offer through weariness and brokenness is still precious to Him.

Final Thought

Jessica’s story reminded me once again that God can use us in every season; even if it requires recording vocals with a baby in our arms. If life looks different from what you expected, keep trusting Him and offering what you have.

Your season may have changed, but God isn’t finished with you.
